The genus pentatropis is considered as one of the most important genus used in v arious systems of medicine due to their reported v ariety of compounds. In the present inv estigation the plant, Pentatropis capensis, was examined chemically for its phytoconstituents. Inv estigation rev ealed the positiv e results for the presence of steroids, flavanoids, tannins and glycosides. The chloroform extract of stem showed moderate activ ity against bacterial organisms like Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli. The chloroform extract of the whole plant showed no antifungal activity at concentrations of 100mg/ml, 300mg/ml against fungal organisms. Methanollic extract of the plant showed significant effect on hydrogen peroxide radical scav enging activity and less significant effect on nitric oxide radical scav enging activity when compared with the standard.
