Kinetic studies of oxidation of alanine by vanadium(v) in presence of Ru3+catalyst in sulphuric acid medium has been carried out. The main oxidation products of alanine have been identified as ammonia and formic acid. A simple titrimetric method has been used. The effect of ionic strength, [SO42-], [HSO4-], [H+] and temperature were carried out and these effects are also in support of the mechanism proposed. The activation parameters have been determined.
