The present study deals with UV spectrophotometric method development & validation for
simultaneous estimation of Hydrochlorothiazide and Propranolol in dosage form by Simultaneous
Equation Method. The wavelengths selected for the method were at the λmax 271nm and 289nm
for Hydrochlorothiazide and Propranolol respectively. The linearity of Hydrochlorothiazide and
Propranolol was found to be in the range of 4-24 μg/ml & 8-48μg/ml respectively. The linear
correlation was obtained (r2> 0.998) in the range of 4-24μg/ml for Hydrochlorothiazide at
271nm.The method was found to be linear (r2> 0.998) in the range of 8-48 μg/ml for Propranolol at
289 nm. The limit of detection was 0.052 μg/ml and 0.461 μg/ml for Hydrochlorothiazide and
Propranolol respectively. The limit of quantification was 0.158 μg/ml and 1.397 μg/ml for
Hydrochlorothiazide and Propranolol. The accuracy of the method was found to be 97-98%.The
simple and economical method was successfully applied for simultaneous determination of
Propranolol and Hydrochlorothizide in combined dosage form. The proposed method was
validated as per ICH guidelines.
